Movie Research: The Nun

Me and my group have been researching horror movies to further understand the genre prior to making our intro sequence. This is our research on "The Nun"

"The Nun," a horror film released in 2018, delves into the terrifying universe of "The Conjuring" series. Directed by Corin Hardy, the movie is set against the backdrop of a Romanian abbey in the 1950s, creating a chilling atmosphere that sets the stage for supernatural horror. The cinematography is commendable, with the eerie landscapes and haunting interiors adding to the overall sense of dread. However, the film's plot, while promising, falls victim to clichés and predictable scares, making it somewhat formulaic for seasoned horror enthusiasts. Taissa Farmiga's portrayal of Sister Irene adds depth to the character, but the script often relies on jump scares rather than building a sustained atmosphere of fear. Despite its flaws, "The Nun" succeeds in delivering moments of genuine terror, and the religious undertones heighten the sense of unease. The soundtrack effectively contributes to the suspense, enhancing the overall viewing experience. The film also benefits from Bonnie Aarons' reprisal of her role as the malevolent nun Valak, who remains a truly menacing presence. The production design is noteworthy, creating a visually captivating yet disturbing setting that adds to the film's intensity. All in all, "The Nun" has its share of frightening moments and visual appeal, but it falls short in terms of originality and a cohesive narrative. It caters to fans of jump scares and supernatural horror, but those seeking a more nuanced and innovative storyline may find it lacking.

  For the past week the group has been researching various thriller movies, the movie we're researching at the moment is the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.   The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (TCM) is a long term favorite amongst scare enthusiasts and has touched the hearts of millions of fans. However, the most recent installment of the series is poorly rated by many due to its poor storyline. The TCM is a scary film and has some notable scenes that draw out fear in the audience but lack of interesting storyline makes it bland and unentertaining. The TCM uses tracking shots, close-ups and inserts. The TCM also uses very detailed props and costumes to immerse audiences such as chainsaws and leather masks.   The TCM fantastically uses jump scares and music to intensify the film and it truly terrifies the audience. Production Blog (Planning)

 Hey Blog. This week has not been much work yet. Me and my group have been talking trying to plan out our filming. We plan to meet and film soon. We have one issue that has risen as of recently. For our video to work out how we want it we're going to need a new person. We need one person to kidnap. One person to film. One person to drive the car at the beginning. And finally, one person to get kidnapped. We have no one that wants to be kidnapped at the moment. We have a couple people that we might be able to rely on. They are all in other classes. Meeting with them and getting something set up might be hard. We want to make the kidnapped person a girl. We feel as though the intro sequence would be a bit scarier if a girl was taken. I believe our group will meet soon. We do not have too much time as Anthony is very busy. Anyways, that is all for now. Bye blog.
